Fly or drive into Phoenix. We will pick you up at the airport.

Before measurements taken, as well as optional photos (bring something revealing)

Place all the items that you won't bring on the trail aside

Making of the Trail Mix

Purchase any last minute items

Go out for dinner in town

Hike about 4.0 uphill miles into Cottonwood Canyon

Camp wherever we find water (depends upon conditions) and level ground

Hike about 6.6 miles

Camp at flat area on unnamed summit just past Klondike Spring

No water at campsite. Most reliable water source: Walnut Spring, 1 mile further

Water is possible at Klondike Spring, or at Pine Creek Tributary

Possible Bailout: Tule Trail, 4.7 mile hike to FR469

Mileage Today: 6.6. Total Mileage: 16.3 miles

Hike 1.0 miles to Reavis Gap Trail

Hike 3.3 relatively easy, mostly downhill miles to Reavis Ranch

Hike 1.5 relatively easy, slightly uphill miles to on Reavis Ranch Trail

Camp alongside Reavis Creek (if we're feeling strong, it's 2.5 easy miles to Reavis Saddle)

Possible Bailout: Reavis Gap Trail, 2.8 miles to Upper Horrell Trailhead

Mileage Today: 5.8. Total Mileage: 22.1 miles

Hike 1.0 downhill miles to Rogers Canyon Trail

Hike 2.7 easy downhill miles to Frog Tanks Trail

Hike 1.6 miles to JF Trail

No water here. Last water source: Rogers Canyon

Possible Bailout: Reavis Ranch Trail, 1.5 miles to Rogers Trough

Hike 2.1 uphill miles to Red Tanks Divide

Camp at Red Tanks Divide (probably dry)

Last water source: Randolph Spring / Canyon

Next water source: About 1 mile downhill

Possible Bailout: JF Trail, 1.3 miles to Woodbury Trailhead

Hike 0.2 miles to Barks Canyon

Turn off trail, using only a map and compass

Hike 0.8 uphill miles to the Peralta Trail

Hike 0.7 uphill miles to the Fremont Saddle

Turn off trail again, using only a map and compass

Hike 0.7 miles to West Boulder Canyon Saddle

Camp at West Boulder Canyon Saddle (dry)

Last water source: Bluff Spring

Possible Bailout: Peralta Trail, 1.9 miles to Peralta Trailhead

Mileage Today: 5.7. Total Mileage: 42.5 miles

Day Hike 2.1 miles to the summit of Superstition Mountain

Day Hike 2.1 miles back

Hike 2.6 miles downhill to Old West Boulder Canyon

Option 2:

Hike 2.1 miles to the summit of Superstition Mountain

Hike 5.4 miles downhill to West Boulder Canyon

Either way, camp at the intersection of West Boulder Canyon and Old West Boulder Canyon (possibly dry)

Water source: Willow Spring

Possible Bailout: Peralta Trail, 2.6 miles to Peralta Trailhead

Mileage Today: 6.8-7.5. Total Mileage: 49.3-50.0 miles
